LET IT SNOW!!!

Life always seems a mix of good and bad news and today's no different. I woke up with a stuffed up head, puffy, dry eyes nearly swollen shut and a sore throat. Obviously it's my annual cold come to visit. (That's what I get for leaving my writing cave and going out in public to get my hair done.)

But the good news (there's always a bright side!) is that along with having a great haircut, it's allowing me to spend the day in bed, playing games on my iPhone and watching our first snowfall in about six years. The flakes have been floating down all day, and haven't stuck all that much and it certainly isn't going to impress any of you living in the Great White North, but it's still pretty and my sweetie tells me it's getting a lot colder outside and the snow on the deck is crunchy (I expect my pansies in their deck pots to be coated in ice cubes by morning, which is always kinda cool to see), so maybe tomorrow I'll wake up to snow on the ground.

Which, swinging back to bad news, makes me worry about all those millions of people who are going to be out on the Mall in Washington, D.C. tomorrow. I once waited in line to tour the White House in December, when it was below freezing, and while the experience -- especially seeing the stunning Christmas decorations -- was definitely well worth it, my toes and fingers went numb from the cold. And I wasn't outside nearly as long as they'll all be.

Which, in turn, brings up another point. I hope you drop by here again tomorrow because I have a little bit to say about my Grandda McLaughlin, who came to America in the 1920s in search of political freedom. And how he and our President-Elect share a connection.

Also, I'll be sharing a fun video sent to me by a dear friend who enjoys dual citizenship and will be celebrating our Inauguration Day at a party in Canada.

Here's another picture taken from the bedroom window. Since it's on the second floor, it's like watching the snow from a treehouse. Those little black smudges you see (the floaty orange lights are not UFOs, but reflections from the lamp on the window), are my furry snow beasts, Toby and Shadow, sniffing around trying to figure out what all that white stuff is!

Hope you're staying warm, JoAnn :)

Hey, Sweetie! Good to hear from you!! It seems like ages.

I am staying warm -- have my electric blanket turned up to high and the two fuzzy dogs -- who are, thankfully, dried off -- lying on either side of me.

Personally, I think they love sick days because they get to move from their dog beds to the people bed all day. :)

Erin, The only good thing about a cold is that it does give you an excuse to stay in bed. Hope you're feeling better soon and I really hope you enjoy guess whose novel. LOL
