Last Sunday, in the opening sentences of On Lavender Lane (publication date, January 3rd), we'd just met celebrity chef Madeline Durand when she was braising short ribs in an Omaha department store just as her husband's sex video went viral.
This is the same day, after she managed to finish her cooking demonstration and has returned to NYC:
"You're Madeline Durand."
Madeline hadn't entirely become accustomed to being approached by strangers. But usually such encounters were were positive, with viewers telling her how much they enjoyed her programs, or how they'd started cooking because the recipes she created seemed so accessible.
That's what she was expecting now.
She was wrong.
Because, although she wouldn't have thought it possible, Madeline's already horrible day was about to get worse.

Uh oh...sounds like nothing good is about to happen...
Love days that are about to get worse. As a reader, that is!
After the internet fiasco, you wonder how her day could get any worse. That would be anyone's worse day ever. Can't wait for the book to start reading this story. I have truly enjoyed your Shelter Bay novels.
Let me guess...her sous vide explodes?
What a great hook...Can't wait to find our just how much worse they're going to get.
Okay... so now I'm reallllly intrigued! Love the way you're able to create such suspense in just a few lines. Can't wait to read the book in January!!
Amy Durham
Wonderful six sentences! I wish you a ton of sales with your books! Happy Sunday and Happy Halloween!

This is very intriguing! With the 12 sentences I've read till now I can't wait for the book!
Susana
I can't wait!!! You have me so hooked on all your books, that I am sharing with my co workers, I have one hooked as well!!
Sounds like something juicy is about to happen!!! I can't wait to read the whole book :)
Oh, clever tease!
I don't see how her day is going to get worse. I guess that's why I read & you write! So excited for this book. They always hold a special place with me because, like I've told you before, it was one of yours that started me reading again after a long hiatus.
This is just so so exciting, because I know this book is going to be just wonderful to sink my teeth into....
I just tried to leave a comment, and this is the message I got. 'Input error: Memcache value is null for FormRestoration' Sounds like my day just got worse, if I don't have a chance to win.
Oh, dying to see how much worse it could get. (But then I love to put characters through hell so they earn that Happily Ever After.) Intriguing Six! Well done!
Oh noes! What now?
I'm dying to read more of this. I really can't wait until it comes out. I've been chomping since you posted the first six, and this just made it worse, lol.
This is such a fun story. Such great teases. Can't wait to read more of it!
so excited for this book to come out!!!
Hope this doesn't show twice, Can't wait till Jan, even if it will be cold
Youjust knew the day was going to continue down into the pits, wh is it asking and what happens mext, great six.
Thanks Unknown -- I'm certainly enjoying writing them!
KathyF -- LOL. Nope. That's not it.
Trisha -- She goes through a lot of stuff. But the HEA payoff will be worth it!
Liz -- Bad days in real life -- Not good. Bad days in fiction -- fun. lol
Thanks melyndaprice!
Thanks Amy. I think some of that comes from my advertising days when copy had to be short, but still get people to read it.
Thanks Stephanie! Happy Halloween to you, too!
Thanks anonymous!
Dee, thank you! Not just for reading and sharing my books, but getting another reader hooked. That's so much fun to hear!
Sarah -- Yep. Much more stuff happens. But what I love about writing romance is that everyone who deserves a happy ending gets one. :)
Holiday Party Decorations -- Funny, sweetie has said the same thing to me. Going back to my h.s. days. ;)
meprince -- You did tell me that, and it still makes my day to hear it! Smooches!
Gail, don't worry, this message posted! Thanks for trying again!
Kathleen -- I hope you enjoy it. It will make you hungry! I cooked everything people eat in the story, some things several times, and sweetie and I both gained weight! Thus the downside of research. But we sure ate well while I was writing. :D
Kallypso -- Yep, throwing stuff at characters can be fun. I always think of it as putting another bear in the canoe. It is admittedly trickier now that I can't just have someone shoot someone the way I did in romantic suspense, hahaha.
Lex -- You'll have to wait. I'm perverse that way. :)
Vivien -- What I just said to Lex. Glad you're enjoying the Sunday six. I'm having grand fun choosing them.
Taryn -- Thanks! I'm enjoying taking part in Six Sentence Sunday. So glad I found it!
Krisgils33 -- I'm excited, too. It always seems like forever from when I turn a book in to when it actually gets published. Then again, patience has never been my strong suit. Something I share with a LOT of my heroines!
Grandma Carolyn -- Don't worry! Lucas and Maddy will be bringing enough heat to warm your chilly January!
Sherry -- Yep. When you discover, in a public arena, that your husband's sex video went viral, it's likely the day's on a downhill slide.
Great six, JoAnn! She's in so much trouble. :)
Oh, poor Madeline. Notoriety for all the wrong reasons. Sounds like she's in for a rough time. Great 6.
Thanks Siobahn! And it gets even worse when she returns to Shelter Bay and finds herself stuck in a partnership with the guy who broke her heart when she was eighteen. Another liar, who's got a lot of 'splaining to do. lol
Cara -- Yes, for a celeb chef, she's a very private person. This is so not what she ever planned for her life. :)
Love the sound of this book, JoAnn. You really teased us with that set-up.
More please :)
Thanks Nicola -- There will be six more next Sunday. When readers get to meet Lucas.
I think her day is about to get much worse! Good six!
Thanks Melissa!
I love it. I can't imagine having to face someone after a sex tape went viral. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Thanks Graylin -- I agree. I especially felt sorry for her when she was standing in the taxi line at the airport, with everyone looking at her, then showing each other the video on smart phones.
A belated welcome to SSS! Way to keep us hooked with the last line.
Thanks Jessica! It was fun discovering SSS!
Just sucked me right in. I'm a bit behind, but can't wait to get into this series.
Love the premise for your book and congrats on your release date!
Great six, wonderfully written, definitely leaves me wanting to know what's going to make her day worse.
Thanks Gwen! I did write each book to stand on its own. Especially since many of the guys, including Lucas in this book, have moved over to Shelter Bay from my High Risk series. I decided they needed a bit less murder and mayhem after all they'd been through. ;)
Thanks Christine! I'm fortunate to have release dates every six months on this series continuing through July 2013. Of course, last time I was congratulating myself o knowing exactly when everything was due, NAL moved the books up three months. But I'm pretty sure -- knock on wood -- that I'm set at six months now.
Such an intriguing six. I'll have to return to the bookstore tomorrow in search for the first two in the series. :)
Welcome to six sentence sunday!
Now that's an ending hook! I want to grow up to be a NYT best selling writer just like you. :)
As always I can't wait for On Lavender Lane, and to find out just how bad a day can really get!
Oh, boy. Can I just say this is a huge page turner? LOL. Very enticing six!
Oh I like this. She's going to be blindsided.
Thanks Lanya! I hop you enjoy The Homecoming and One Summer!
Judythe -- Thank you! That's so sweet! Now, go write!
Teri -- A lot worse!
Thanks Sarah! I hope Shelter Bay readers think so, too!
Jayel -- What she has no way of knowing is that her very bad day of blindsiding is going to continue for more than one day. lol
